NORTH EAST MARINE ENGINE BUILDERS

I wondered if there was any interest in the marine engine builders on the north east coast. From the early days of steam these companies made an enormous contribution to British, shipbuilding, marine engineering as well as the local and national economy.
It would be nice to see a representation of as many engine builders as possible.

These posts are fascinating. Having only been involved with slow speed main engines, it is fascinating to see how many other companies have been building engines. This adds perspective to North East engine building. Is there a book about these builders? If not there surely should be. "Ritchies" by Peter Hogg, lists Richardson and Westgarths engine contracts. I have been trying for many years to list every Doxford engine built world wide and wish that there was a list of every engine built on the north east coast, builder by builder. Footballers get recognition and adulation for what? Yet a couple of hundred years of engine building by teens of thousands of skilled men, each working for decades, day in day out, making enormous contributions to shipbuilding engineering, seafaring, the war efforts, local and national economies, is hardly noticed.
Thanks for these posts
