I am not sure about this one.On the back it says she is GIUAN built 1896 Doxford but does not look British built.Theirs another GIUAN Italian built 1919.
Very odd, Tony, as her colours are those of the West Hartlepool S.N. Co. but she does not seem to tie into them in any way so maybe just a coincidence.
I'm sorry but this is a Red Herring she is not the one built by Doxfords. After a little research I believe that the ship is the Italian GIUAN as owned by Guiovanni Gavarone bt.1918.My conclusion is that the style and date matches along with the owners name matches the 'G'.So who ever wrote on the back got it wrong and I purchased it on the strength of the information.
..... but it doesn't seem to help us that both GIUANs we're looking at were owned by Industrie Navali SA, subsequently shortened to INSA. Presumably the G refers to Giovanni Gavarone who was recorded as owner of the 1918 GIUAN between 1938 and 1948 with Industrie Navali SA before and after that period.
