We went to Consett Steel Works for a school trip.
Never filled in any Health and Safety forms and afterwards back at school the comment was made by our teacher 'they'll never close that place'. That would be 1973/74 and five years later they started making redundancies. My uncle was middle management at Redcar and finished in 1981 in his middle fifties and went down to sign on, a completely new experience to him, in his Jag !
