One of three built by Doxford's in 1947/48 for Bank Line. (Andrew Weir & Co Ltd.)
EASTBANK Completed December 1947; SOUTHBANK Completed March 1948 and WESTBANK Completed November 1948.

East and West left the fleet in 1965, whilst South broke in two after running aground in 1964.

So why has she had her Signal Mast and Topmasts removed? Had she been up to Dunston Flour Mill??
No problem getting between the piers of the Swing Bridge with a beam of 60ft she had 27ft spare on the narrow side.
Her Summer draught was 26' 03/4" and the river up to the west end of Dunston Flour Mill was dredged to 25ft below chart datum, so she might have been restricted to going up on a Spring Tide or not fully loaded.
Clearence for the Tyne Bridge at the time was 84ft at Mean High Water Spring's.
But the wharf at Dunston is only 440ft and she is 464ft...........

It wasn't at all uncommon to have ships calling at the flour mill with a part cargo. Two that I can recall were a liberty ship called SEA HORSE and HOPERANGE. (I was privileged with a trip aboard HOPERANGE when she had discharged her grain at the mill then made her way down to Wallsend for dry docking.

The flour mill is really the only place she could have been to discharge cargo.
I cannot see her coming round from Manchester like that as her Steaming Lights and Radio would have been on her Top Mast's.
