She had a very long build time. Laid down on the 26th November 1952. Launched 21st December 1953. Commissioned 2nd July 1955.
The dates for her sister KELLINGTON from the same yard were:- 5th January 1954--12th October 1954--4th November 1955.
Colledge has her as NORTHUMBRIA from January 1955, reverting back to KEDLESTON later the same year, presumably when she was commissioned.
So Did she spend a wee while in the training squadron before she officially commissioned?? Hence the seemingly long build time??

She was towed to Bruges for breaking on the 20th April 1992.

Kedleston was the first of 3 Ton class built by Pickersgill - she was of novel construction to the yard - wooden planking on aluminium framing , bulkheads and upperworks which I think explains the long build from Keel to completion. Tyne Division had M1146 Hodgeston as tender from 2/1955 to 4/1960 so did not need another. As with many Tons they went straight from builder to reserve at Hythe where Kedlesto lived until being towed to Gibraltar in 1962, thence Aden returning in tow to the UK in 1966.

So not sure where Jim Colledge got her as Northumbria in 1955. -

Thanks Brian. By the time they had finished one, they must have ironed out all the problems as number two was a much swifter build.

Not helped I don't suppose by which Engineroom to fit, like the "Ford" Class built around the same time as the early "Tons" they were supposed to have the then new Deltic Engines but due to development problems with the Deltic Engine the "Tons" had settle for the Mirrlees with the Deltic engines to be retrofitted when available usually when they went into have the enclosed Bridge conversion. Though I have been aboard a "Ton" at Vernon that had an enclosed Bridge with the Mirrlees Engineroom which was being taken round to Gib by a scratch Crew off Vanguard to have the Deltic conversion. There was a bit of a mish mash in the 1950's when it came to the "Tons" as there was also an open Bridge version at Vernon which had Deltic's fitted.

Upon reflection and looking at the photographs of Kedleston she looks as though she was one of the Class which was built with the enclosed Bridge possibly?. Design changes during build can also cause delays.
