Would not Hedwin be described as a grab dredger. Her predecessor would have been the aptly named TIC Grab Dredger No 2 that was around in 1965. I never did see No 1!

I seem to recall TIC 9 was the bucket dredger that was around in 1967.

In 1967 there was also a bucket dredger on the Wear that was grandly named Viscount Ridley.

50 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK!

For various reasons 1971 turns out to have been my second-worst year for new ship sightings during my 61 years of interest. In thst year I recorded only 34 new sightings and, apart from sightings at Whitby in April, which I have already shown, I had only one other ship-observing outing that year .... and I have gone sailing past the 50th anniversary date, albeit by only a few days!

That second outing for the year was a Tyne river trip on August bank holiday so, slioghtly belatedly, I will now present those I photographed in the order I took them - not necessarily the same order as I recorded sightings in my notebook.
