Assisting the departure of LEDA in June 1966. Nowadays Health & Safety would surely "hoy a wobbler" if they ever witnessed the likes of the guy clambering about on the ship's hatch cover.

He seems very sure that no-one's going to push the 'close hatch' button!

It looks like he may be working on the Hatch Locking Gear, I was going to say that “Safety “ is just a word nicely painted on the front of the Bridge but it appears to be missing or underneath the Hatch Cover he is working in an unsafe manner on!
In the Crew Members defence he may well have been told “Do.the job or Pack your Grip and get off with the Pilot”.
Looking back with an eye on today’s Health and Safety Rules leaves you thinking how the hell did we get away with doing that fix and the answer was and still.is if you don’t fix it and the sailing is delayed or the ship requires a Tug to Tow the ship you can forget about further employment with the Company. Your paid to fix it.

Our comments should not detract from this being a very fine photo of the tug, at the bow of a very fine ferry.

I apologise NE, just had a bit of a “ Wobble” about Safety aboard Ships when out of sight out of mind was the norm as far as Ship Owners / Agents were concerned.
