Tyne tugs

Postby Tynesider » Mon Mar 14, 2022 2:18 pm

When my Dad left and Granddad last worked for Tyne tugs there was 31 tugs and when my Dad left there was 24, now we have three and I wonder for how long as Svitzer is not a charity.

Today Other than the ferry I see one ship and a dredger in the whole Tyne with 5 in Blyth (there was 9 yesterday plus a barge and dredger)

Other ports have expanded especially with container terminals which the PTA has not increased and never replaced the coal ships even the car carriers are getting less and less each week

It does indeed N.E. and how quickly too, what about "Fog on the Tyne" by Lindisfarne, fine set of Tugs Mike along with some of the mixed characters that will have sailed on them with their invaluable experiences, getting a new car of your choice these days is a bit of a hassle due to a shortage of 'Chips' ( no mention of Fish prices) even nearly new secondhand prices have shot up which might explain the shortage of Car Transporters unless they have rolled on to their sides which seems to be the situation in the past couple of years. The Tyne seems to be the Docking Port for Cruise Ships these days to look at "Your actual Roman Wall" :D h

Pre-owned (used to be called second hand!) cars have certainly done well in the market, bought a Mini just a year ago and it's gained £2500. Golf at 4 years old has gone down just £3500. Jag that I passed on to son has gone up £5000 in one year. I've asked him to send the cheque  .All low mileage cars partly due to Covid. A new Golf ex factory is around 7 months wait, I'm told. No point is shipping new cars around if no buyers. Time to tighten more than the seat belt.

The only vehicle carriers busy these days are running from Marchwood to Poland/ Estonia hopefully their cargo comes back unused and a bargain for those who buy pre owned Military Vehicles to demonstrate them at Military Shows.
