An undated view looking across the river from a point near the site of Redheads shipyard at North Shields, unless I'm mistaken.
The collier HOMEFIRE was built by S.P.Austin & Sons Ltd., Sunderland, in 1925 for the Gas, Light and Coke Co. Most of her crew were lost when she was attacked and sunk by enemy aircraft off the Yorkshire coast in 1941 while on passage from the Thames to Sunderland.

5 Star. Fantastic.

I presume this one, again: http://www.tynetugs.co.uk/moselle1861.html

But what is on the funnel? Could it be an "R"? Looks more like an "F".

No must admit it does look like its supposed to be an 'F' on the old funnel.

R for Robson or even 'E' for Eastwood which is where he lived in Leamington, but no it has to complicate things.

If you look at 'Tyne River Views'-Newcastle Water Front picture by Keelman it is an 'R' on the Moselle funnnel for Robson Tugs leamington

That looks like one of the Bergen Lines ferries across the other side at the Tyne Commissioners quay (now Northumbrian quay)
