Stephenson Clarke's STORRINGTON on Austin's Pontoon

The pontoon was built by CS Swan & Hunter Ltd at Wallsend in 1903 & disappeared from the Wear sometime in the 1990s

(In May 1949, she passed to the newly-formed North Thames Gas Board)
Broken up at Dunston-on-Tyne in April 1954

and POMPEY LIGHT
Second of two colliers for Portsmouth Corporation, whose colours she wears
Comp. in February 1949 but delivered to the British Electricity Authority, so presumably her funnel colours were altered just after this photo was taken
(Her sister POMPEY POWER had been delivered in January and made only one southbound voyage to Portsmouth before being handed over to the new B.E.A., the nationalised electricity generator. She still survives as HAMEN.)

Actually it looks like she is in the process of changing her Funnel.

You can see the 'B' then the Portsmouth Borough Council Crest.

Austin's Pontoon was towed away from the Wear about 1965/66.

According to the Sign on the Railings where it used to be, Austins closed in 1964 and the Pontoon was towed away to Hong Kong for use by another shipyard in 1966.

The pontoon was towed to Holland on 3.6.1966 for futher use.First ship to use it was Cunards BRESICA buit by JLT.Last ship from the Wear DY slipway was the GREENLAND (alough she was built at Southwick)
