Great photo of an often forgotten yard. Shame it is so difficult to identify the ships. All I can say is Ropner.

Of the 4 alongside, maybe a Turnbull Scott inside with a Chapman & Willan as the next one out?
Furthest of the 3 in drydock has an M or H in a diamond device on her funnel.

A suggestion, I put it no higher than that, for the M diamond vessel is the CAMERATA of the Strick subsidiary La Tunisienne which was in their fleet 1947-51. She was built as the BADJESTAN for Hindustan S.S. Co. Ltd., in 1927.
There seem very strong similarities showing her under a later name on page 109 of the WSS Strick Line book (Eddie Belt & Harry Appleyard). The slight differences may possibly be through ventilators and kingposts being removed while she was under repair?

Not so sure re CAMERATA, Ron, there should be a white band top and bottom of the central band with the M in the diamond .... wonder if any other lines had something similar?

In the SULEV photo, the Chapman & Willan alongside seems to be NURTURETON of 1929 (Short Bros) and sold in 1953 as ERIKA FRITZEN. She is not the same C&W as in the larger photo, where the Turnbull Scott still eluded me!

Went for an interview on Turnbull Scott's SKELDERGATE which was drydocking in Middle Docks in April 1979. Got offered a cadetship but decided to go with Everards. Ah well !

In 1979 Turnbull Scott gave me an interview which took place on board SKELDERGATE which was in the middle drydock at the time. Actually got an offer of an apprenticeship with them but chose Fred Everards instead.
