Good old pictures from times gone by, but me thinks this is Middle Docks not TDE

Look where the town hall is and there never was a warehouse behind TDE (looks like B & Q) Brigham & Cowan was behind TDE.

Yeah, you're right, it didn't become TDE until a while later. My first note of it becoming TDE was January 1996. This is a letter and photo i received from Alan Brewster in March 96.

Wow agree what a great old picture, you can almost cry when you look across the river from Northumbria Quay now.

I see the Hedwin at the Tyne Commissioners quay and looks like the RFA Olna at Smiths dock, and I am racking my old grey brian cells to the name of the red hull ship at Middle docks, she was one of the Atlantic survey ships and I saw her many times from my favorite spot at the time Mill Dam.

Hi Paul
Yes that does look like her by the funnel and accommidation, but Kevins aerial picture shows her with what looks like a tall aft mast.
I am sure Middle Docks had a number of the Arctic survey ships in form time to time like the James Clarke Ross, Ernest Shackleton and the John Biscoe.

Good job we have an over sixties section on this web site!! :D

That's a bit closer Kevin.......

Actually what you think is a Mast is the jib of a crane and she has a similar one forward.

Trinity House Lightvessel alongside.

Hi Paul
Yes I agree looking at the blow up it is a crane like the one over the foreward hatch area, also the helipad looks the same as Bransfield picture I found and the aft accommidation.
