Watching the orderly exodus of passengers from the ferry at South Shields the other day reminded me of times past when a bit of fun was often had, generally but not exclusively by the younger generation, as the ferry's ramp was lowered. These retrospective views from around 1968 give a hint of the interesting sights to be seen on the cross river trip. Boy! have things changed since then!

Thanks for your comments gents, it's nice to know they are appreciated. I do regret that I that I didn't record much much more of everyday events taking place up and down the river in those days.

We used to spend hours from the upper deck with live entertainment watching car drivers coming aboard and parking on the ferry as 50% always hit something either another car or parts of the ferry
