According to a message on Tug Talk, her registration documents show her name to be two words ie CHERRY MARINE. This was also the trading name of the company that owned her on Teesside. So what is the MPT on the funnel?

Shipbroker can probably add more but think Cherry Marine was associated with Eddie Appleton, who was one of the principals in Marine Partners, having once been, I think, a Tees Foyboatman. They had tank storage on Dockside Road, Middlesbrough which continues today as MP Storage and Blending Ltd. Eddie died some years ago and was a larger than life character, who took an active interest in the Tees and Hartlepool Port Users Assiciation and was quite idiosyncratic when it came to formal meetings. I am not sure if the family still have interests in MP Storage and Blending. MPT - Marine Partners Tug??

You have got it pretty much spot on John.......

In the mid-90's Eddie and his brother wanted to expand their marine business and were associated with Dennis Aveling at Aveco and had hopes of selling the blending business and building some more inshore vessels.....I was actually asked by Eddie if I could locate a possible purchaser, this came to nothing at the time and it wasn't long before he suddenly died....I don't think he had consulted the others about a potential sale!!

The other vessel I remember was Cherry Bobs and at one time we went mackerel fishing in Tees Bay.........Eddie always thought that having a Tees Wharf Operators Association, Tees Shipping Association and Shipbrokers was a waste and that a Shipping Forum should be formed covering the three bodies...obviously Shipbrokers could not be combined but it wasn't many years before the other 2 bodies did merge...

This tug CHERRYMARINE was the second of the name in the Cherry Marine fleet, the first one being a barge.

My own selection of black and white views of the tug. Does anyone have her history?
