Kingston Jacinth 1929-1943

She was built for Kingston Steam Trawling Co., Ltd and requisitioned by the Admiralty in August 1939, just prior to the outbreak of war.
On 12 January 1943 she was rocked by an explosion, abandoned and sank approx 11 miles SSE of Selsey Bill in the English Channel.
20 of her crew did not survive.
10 remain missing presumed killed and are commemorated on the Lowestoft Naval Memorial.
10 died and are interred in cemeteries across the United Kingdom.
Cecil George Garner, ordinary seaman, Royal Naval Patrol Service, service No LT/JX 380152, aged 19, is one of only two Naval personnel buried in any of our local Eastleigh, Hampshire, cemeteries or churchyards who was killed in action, not died of other causes, during World War 2.
Unfortunately, there is no headstone as his family requested a Private Memorial, not a Commission Headstone.
