Kharg at Walker Naval Yard on 7 April 1980, a few days before handover. The export licence was withrawn on the morning of the handover and she remained on the river until 1984, when she was finally released after removal of the 76mm gun seen at the bow and other items of armament.

Kharg in Brigham & Cowan's large dock on 16 July 1984, finally being prepared for departure for Iran.

August Sea Breezes has a report in the Naval News section that she has recently been overhauled and returned to service with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Navy.

Berthed in Jakarta with 300 cadets on board to commemorate 70 years of Iranian/Indonesian diplomatic ties last Tuesday and was there for four days.

Have just read an article saying parts of her boiler system was replaced in2016 possibly with inferior locally made parts which might have caused the fire. Also claimed around 400 crew on board on a training exercise

Amongst a number of "well informed" posts was one which suggested she sank because she was built of aluminium.-
