After 43 years serving the fleet in the RFA, Gold Rover has today, Weds 22 Feb 2017, arrived back in Pompey to pay off.
Her official decommissioning date is set for 6th March, when she will be up for disposal.
Unusually for an RFA, she flew a paying off pendant 460' long. In her active career it is estimated she has conducted 8,256 replenishments at sea. So, how much would that lot cost at the pumps.
5 Rover class were built from the late 60's, all by Swan Hunter, Grey and Black are now history, but Green in Indonesia and Blue in Portugal still serve their respective navies, and from their ages, Gold is a mere youth.
Image in lead post is as built.
Thats all folks. Sean.
