Do we have a gas company expert in the house??????

Came across this one yesterday when looking for something else (as you do). Built of wood at "Newcastle" in 1884 and apparently not registered until 1939 by which time she was powered by a "motor". Owned by the Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and Gateshead Gas Co Ltd and still listed in MNL in 1947.

Any thoughts?

No sign of an earlier name so seems that they had her from new but not reg. until 1939 which may be when she got the engine?
Very old and long-lived company

Paul Hood might have worked for them

I think they kept her until at least 1955. The Manager was Sigurd W. A. Wikner and another Barge was added in 1950.
This was built at Willington Quay and called S. A. WIKNER.

They were used to transport Coal and Coke to the various Gas Works and the Tar Works on the Tyne.

And that is about all I can add!

Presumably the N & G GAS COMPANY NO 1 became owned by the Northern Gas Board in 1948
