LEVIATHAN

No, Fife was not Tyne-built, coming from Fairfield in 1966 and Centaur came from H&W in 1953 – but just visible on the extreme left of the picture of Fife, and just visible over the flight deck on the picture of Centaur, both taken at Portsmouth in August 1966, are the upperworks of the incomplete aircraft carrier Leviathan, launched at Wallsend on 7 June 1945. After gradually being cannibalised for spares, including boilers to refit the Dutch Karel Doorman (formerly HMS Venerable), she went to the breakers in 1968.

Couple of nice photos Dennis, shame about the LEVIATHAN.
A bit more of her in this Swan Hunter photo of her being launched 07/06/1945.
Photo is probably part of the Tyne & Wear Museums collection.
