A picture which has been posted before now on another site but it seems appropriate to include it on NEM as the vessel has strong local connections
Built by Hawthorn Leslie & Co. in 1935 as THORNABY for the Tyne Tees Steam Shipping Co.
Renamed NORTHUMBRIAN COAST in 1946
Demolished at Dunston by Clayton Davie in 1963
This view at Newcastle Quayside was taken not long before the demise of the vessel

A reminder of just how much rubbish used to float down the Tyne!

It still does, but it is mostly clean, natural vegetation type rubbish. I saw the piece of artwork, was it called Sound of the Tyne, just last year and it was totally surrounded by similar driftwood etc.
