Built as the HUDSON LIGHT by Readhead's in1965.
Renamed CASTLE POINT in 1976 and SONIA I in 1989.

Very interesting!!

I wonder why the plated over all the forward facing windows??

Never noticed that before.

Paul,all the windows in the accomodation are shown on the original slide,but for some reason the scanner on this occasion would not pick them up,does look a little strange,and spoils the photo to some extent!! I have had the problem once or twice.

Just to prove Mick can, indeed, blame his scanner, my companion black and white views taken on that same occasion - Sunderland, 25 August 1976:

Mind you, another few minutes and there might have been another reason why her superstructure was obscured! She was being followed in from the North Sea by a dense fog bank, the beginnings of which you may just detect in Mick's second shot, and even more clearly behind Mick's view of the WHITBURN, an attendant tug for the HUDSON LIGHT (see: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4776)

Actually I've had similar problems but with ships names when I've scanned slides.

It may well be the settings on the scanner.

I used scratch removal etc on some medium format negatives and they succeeded in removing the name of one ship and 'Central Electricity Generating Board' from another.
