Delivered from Walker Naval yard in 1957, Scarborough and her sister-ship Tenby (from Cammell Laird, also in 1957) were sold to Pakistan in 1974. However, in the event, they were not modernised and never operated for Pakistan. Scarborough, seen here at Wallsend on 22 November 1975, was eventually broken up at Blyth in 1977.

Scarborough and Tenby were supposed to be sold to UraGuay and refitted by the Wallsend dry docks (similar to the two Chilean destroyers Almirante Williams And Almirante Riveros). However the Tory government would not allow the sale for political reasons and so both vessels were offered to Pakistan. Unlike the Chilian contracts the Pakistan Navy wanted a fixed price contract and not a cost plus one and after many months of work by the dockyard estimators they concluded that they could not afford the refit and the vessels were therefore scraped. It was certainly a pity as the dockyard had gained valuable experience during the previous refits and could have possibly gone on to many more of these lucrative type contracts.

Splendid view of Jarrow No 3 Gasholder completed in 1955 by Oxley Engineering. Four Lifts with an above ground tank with a Diameter of 183 ft. Approx. height from ground level when full 165 ft and a capacity of 3 Million cubic ft.

To finish the story of HMS SCARBOROUGH, this is her arriving at Blyth on the 31st August 1977 to be broken up by C F Booth, which I will try and get in the right order!!
