Sailed on her when she was Northumbria, the weekend training/cruise/jaunt was usually up to Berwick, some years later I am fairly sure she ran aground off Berwick, refloated but very badly damaged, patched up and went into Reserve (for spare parts?) till scrapped.

Nothumbria was not much harmed in her grounding and continued as the Tyne Division sea tender until August 1972.

Very true Nighttrucker, the lad is stuck in a hotel out there for a fortnight before he can join his ship.
