the Bofors was more akin to the Limbo in date. It fired a rocket powered projectile as opposed to the Squid and Limbo which were mortars ejected by a separate firing charge.

The images of Gelderland were taken during her final deployment as she paid off when she returned home to then become a static alongside training ship, not dismantled for a further 20 years, longer than she served.

Of the 4 Holland class, Gelderland was launched 19 Sept 1953. Although destroyers they carried no torpedoes and were classed anti submarine destroyers or onderzeebootjagers. Much of their equipment, machinery and sensors was Dutch with a healthy inclusion of Swedish kit dominating including all the weapons courtesy of Bofors.

The 2 x 4 barrelled anti sub mortars just forward of the bridge as illustrated by Paul earlier, were officially titled raketdieptebomwerpers. After a couple of lagers that will trip you up.
Thats all folks. Sean.

A rather fuzzy and heavily enhanced picture of Gelderland laid up in Dijksgracht, Amsterdam, taken on a bleak 21 January 1994 from a train leaving Amsterdam Centraal.
