A rare visitor to the Tyne – HMS Albion arrived yesterday at about 19:30 and is scheduled to sail today at 14:00. Seen here being bunkered by the Portuguese flagged Antares at the Container Berth this morning.

Rare visitor indeed. So rare she will never be seen here again, or anywhere else under the white ensign.
Ditto sister Bulwark, Type 23 Northumberland and both Wave class tankers.

This is what used to happen to redundant War Canoes after being offered for sale either as Motor Yachts, Live Aboard’s (mainly in the South of England Buyers) or Movie Stars about Smuggling ( The shame of it)) Targets, Engines (Lend Lease) and Metalwork removed for Scrap. Most of the Hulls appear to be British Power Boat built, all that Craftsmanship only to be run up on to a Beach and set fire to with the further removal of any Scrap Metal from the Beach.
Fairmile “D” went on to give further Service as Engine Test Vessels, Sea Cadet Training Vessels (Static) until they were scrapped in the the 1950’s due to Dry Rot which delaminated their Bulkheads due to poor poor ventilation in the Bilge and met the same end.
In regard’s to the vessel featured and others mentioned I would be surprised if they were Sold, Laid Up? the Royal Marines are kicking up a stink about the proposal which seems madness at this time to be disposed of.
