Too right with that amount of damage, on first looking I thought she had ploughed into a Dock Wall until I managed to read the handwriting, certainly good Damage Control saved her. Looks like she T Boned the other vessel which I suspect will have sank.
Interesting that there appears to be nothing on record although being Wartime their Lordships would want to keep it quiet which leads me to believe the vessel she hit was one of ours rather than German.

It may have been extreme damage to Wessex but certainly not as extreme as the destroyer on the receiving end of this encounter.

Admiralty W class Wessex was in collision with half sister, Admiralty V class Vancouver on 26 June 1918 with 2 and 5 dead respectively with Vancouver hit almost amidships. Both were back at sea in short order, Wessex on 3 August, Vancouver, much more seriously injured, 3 December.

Well done on the research E28, certainly uncovered a vessel (Vancouver) which went on as the Vimy to an illustrious career in which she interestingly did a bit of "Ramming" herself and lasted until 1948.

There is nothing worse than having the information in plain sight infront of you and not realising it!!

WESSEX.
"Commissioned 30th April 1918. joined the 13th Destroyer Flotilla of the Grand Fleet until December 1918 when she was detatched for service in the Baltic until February 1919.
Weeks after joining the Grand Fleet she was damaged in a collision with VANCOUVER on the 27th June 1918. After assessment, she paid off on the 26th July 1918 for collission repairs. She Recommissioned and rejoined the 13th Destroyer Flotilla on the 31st August 1918.
VANCOUVER.
Commissioned on the 21st January 1918 with the 11th Destroyer Flotilla.
27th June 1918, severely damaged in collision with WESSEX. Paid off for collision repairs on the 31st July 1918 and did not recommission until the 3rd December 1918, rejoining the 11th Destroyer Flotilla."
