HMS Odin. Submarine. 1979.

Postby E28 » Sun Mar 22, 2020 7:43 pm

In 1979 i was in the submarine Odin when she visited Newcastle November 1979.

I ask if any of our members have photos of her alongside the Quay between 4 - 11 November 1979 which i vaguely recall were the dates we visited or her arrival / departure in the Tyne.

I served 8 years in these 'P and O' class boats and this visit was was my last ever sea service and port visit.

Thank you. Sean - E28.
Thats all folks. Sean.

Your 2 images have far exceeded my expectations Brian and i am very grateful.

I certainly don't remember the brow being that steep but once a diesel boat was in it is only the duty watch who remain onboard working a 1 in 3 routine. When you are visiting a port everyone got paid subsistence money to get accomodation ashore but it was up to the individual how you spent it. If you had family or friends you were quids in leaving more beer money.

That is certainly not me stood on the casing as i had 2 badges. He is called the trot sentry and 1 man did this in turn to keep unsavoury characters out and welcome anything in a skirt.

I will add more stuff here in due course.
If you have any questions fire away and i will give you a reply.
Thats all folks. Sean.

Brian you must have photographed 100s of warships that have visited the Tyne in the past.
Which of them would you say is your favorite ?
Be it a Frigate Submarine or Minesweeper English or not .
Regards
Dave
