Hull WSS details and diary.

The Hull & District Branch of the World Ship Society hold regular monthly meetings on a Friday at the Danish Church, Osborne Street, Hull. A guest speaker attends most meetings and presentations usually include slides or a video. The 2011 programme is detailed below and is advertised in the Hull Mail and through a link found on http://www.quaysides.co.uk.

Why join the local branch of the World Ship Society? ~ The Society is suitable for anyone interested in ships – young or old, male or female. Some members have a professional background, others are enthusiasts but the common factor is they are all ship enthusiasts!

The meetings are a great opportunity for members to meet with others to share their maritime interests. The committee aim to provide programme of interest to all members. New members are always welcome.

A quarterly journal is produced called HUMBER LIGHT, which includes local shipping news, current and historic articles. The editor welcomes members’ contributions for publication.

The Danish Church is situated at the corner of Ferensway and Osborne Street, near the City Centre. Car parking is available on the site and the bus terminus and railway station are within walking distance. Meetings start at 7.30pm and the Danish Church provide refreshments afterwards.

The annual membership fee is £8.00 per person (renewed every March) and members who attend meetings pay £1.00 on the evening they attend. Visitors are welcome to attend two meetings to find out what the Society is about and whether or not they would like to join.

Meetings normally take place on a Friday but sometimes there is a planned meeting elsewhere.

September 28 'topic to be confirmed' .... by me!
It will be a PowerPoint entitled 'SHIPOWNERS OF HULL', a good sample of ships from 1800's to 2012 that have been owned and usually registered in Hull.
Thanks to several members for help with photos.
Do come along!
Cheers, George

Still trading currently George, and we haven't paid any booking fee, with such small numbers now we've just reserved a few tables and would be paying on the night :)
