Turner's photographs

I have received an email from Ian Rae, as follows:

"Late last year I eventually completed the database of Turner's shipping photographs which are held by Tyne & Wear Archives. (I'm a volunteer there)
As industrial photographers they did not only take aerial shots of trials, but covered launches, and internal views from engine rooms to wheelhouses ( from 1948 up until the 1970s').
There are over 20,000 photos, the majority cover Wear built ships, as Hawthorns had their own photographer and Swans used Phillipsons in later years.
But there still quite a lot of interesting views of the Tyne.
I am led to believe that database is now on line at www.twmuseums.org.uk/archives"

I must admit I have failed to crack the secret of using the T&W Archive on-line search facility. Fortunately I find the occassional useful list or item hidden in there via Google. If anyone has the secret code, please let me knw.

Agree, its not an easy search.

It may be that its just the Database that is on-line listing the photographs held and that you have to go to the Archives to view them...........still we live in hope!

Yes Paul, I suspect that you will be correct, an on-line listing but not an image. But better than nothing.

I think these are the only ones which are currently available online.
