Saw this classic photo on another site of the City of Port Elizabeth at Newcastle quay, they sure would not get her or anything like her size up there now!

No you would be much more likely to see her on Newcastle Quay Extension.

Newcastle Quay was used as a Lay-up Berth on many occasions and I wonder if this was 1970/71 when she was sold to the Greeks and renamed MEDITERRANEAN ISLAND.
1975 MEDITERRANEAN SUN.

Broken up Kaohsiung, arriving 3rd June 1980.

Vickers Armstrongs, 1952 for Ellermans.

13,363 Gross, 11,350 Dwt.
17 kts. from Twin 6cy 670 x 2320 mm Doxfords. 12,650 bhp. By Hawthorn, Leslie & Co Ltd.

As built she could carry 107 Passengers.

She was bought by Michail A Karageorgis together with the DURBAN, EXETER and YORK.
Laid up Surveys Overdue, Class Suspended 6th August 1971.

York and Exeter were converted into RoRo Ferry's/Passenger Vessels.

Albert Weller slides dated circa August 1971 of this vessel at Newcastle Quay. These seem to support Paul's suggestion that she was there prior to renaming. This appears to have been a ship visit organised by the then newly-formed Teesside Branch of the World Ship Society, continuing in conjunction with the former Teesside Ship Society (we still use that name locally) from January 1971. Another one I missed out on, mainly because my shipping interest had waned somewhat (and thankfully fairly briefly) around that time.
The cluster of people on the second shot include Albert himself second left. I think otherwise I recognise the chap to his immediate left (right on the photo) but cannot now put a name to him!
