A fine old view of the famous Jarrow Slake area of the River Tyne, dating from 1890. Alan identifies the barque as GEORGE WATSON, for which I have no details. At extreme right can be seen the Argentinean cruiser 25 DE MAYO, completed by Armstrong, Mitchell & Co. at Walker under yard number 541 in 1890 ... she had been launched as NECOCHEA on 5/5/1890. The buildings in front of her are actually a 'vessel', the Floating Hospital completed for the Tyne Port Authority by Wood, Skinner & Co. in 1886 under their yard number 3. And in the foreground is an unidentified Tyne dredger with a hopper barge alongside.
A nice composite scene full of interest, and perhaps some further details will emerge?
