Hemiksem berthed at Northumbrian Quay this morning. She arrived last night and is going to be used to tow the Danio free after she went aground on the Farne Islands when the weather improves.

[quote="tynebuoy"]Hemiksem berthed at Northumbrian Quay this morning. She arrived last night and is going to be used to tow the Danio free after she went aground on the Farne Islands when the weather improves.

Not exactly the greatest salvage tug, 'I think' she belongs to Targe Towing Ltd London, and only has a bollard pull of 40ton.

If the weather changes for the worse they may not need her, but hope they get the Danio off even if it is just to save all the local bird and sealife (and crew)

Mind looking at her she 'appears' to be well supported over her length, problem will be is if she starts to pound on the rocks below as the high tides now are reducing not increasing.

Cannot wait to read the MCA report as to how the Danio managed to run aground in the first place, also 'if' they get her off what are they going to do with her, from damage reports she needs a drydock and the Tynes the nearest!!.

[quote="tynebuoy"]Out to to the Farne Islands this morning.

Hemiksen has entered th Firth of Forth and on her way to Rosyth, so not for the Danio, job, however I see we have a much larger tug due in the Tyne on Saturday the Lomax which also has a bigger bollard pull of 80 tons and also quite new!!

I also see that the Thames Fisher has broken down off Flambrough Head and the Tees Tug Ormesby Cross will tow her to Sunderland drydock, so thats another possibility maybe out to take the Danio.

Lomax due tomorrow but was told she's in for bunkers. How much would it cost to hire a tug to do a job like that (danio)?
