Engineering Giants

Postby tynebuoy » Mon Jul 30, 2012 10:31 am

Last nights programme was about the ferry Pride of Brugge being repaired at A&P, Hebburn. A good programme spoilt, for me, by the presenters keep telling us that it was being repaired in Newcastle.

I sense a touch of sensitivity. Anyway not a bad programme but one of the presenters needs a haircut.

Brian,
I would have quite happily tied both reporters to the back of the car and driven them, at a moderate speed, from Hebburn to Newcastle. I mean, after all, Newcastle isn't even on god's side of the river.

I knew you would be gritting your teeth all of the way through that program Kevin - A&P's Newcastle Yard and the Newcastle Engineers

Not much happens in Hebburn does it, never heard of The Hebburn March for example, or Hebburn Slake :)

They think people will not know where Hebburn and Jarrow are, so they pick the nearest place they think people will know.....

So why did'nt they say TYNESIDE!

My better half was getting just as irate as Kevin!

Was a good programme all the same.

Also watch the program on i-player but never knew Gods country had been moved to Newcastle, I bet the A&P lads also gritted their teeth. :D

I was stopped last week on the way to the marina by a Dutchman who had just left the DFDS ferry asking directions to St James Park as he thought North Shields was part of Newcastle, He was not a happy bunney when I showed him a map to where he really was!

All the cruise ship passengers arriving at Northumbrian quay also think they have arrived in Newcastle

Works both ways I suppose Mike - some folk going across on the DFDS Ferry expect to land in Amsterdam and not Ijmuiden which is probably the same distance between North Shields and Newcastle

Tilbury for London, Hound Point for Edinburgh .... must be many examples.
We flew to Hamburg a few years ago, and landed just outside Luebeck (cheap flight so who cares!).
