Christian Salvesen's venture into the Freezer Trawler Buisiness was ahead of its time and the Fairtry II (W Simons, Renfrew. 1959) was laid up at Tonsberg in 1967.
Bought by Vickers Oceanics in October 1971, she was converted into a Submersible Mother Ship and renamed VICKERS VOYAGER in April 1972.
Assume she was converted on the Tyne??

In the Background is the Stores Building etc for Tyne Tees Shipping, now the Hotel de Ville and to the left, the building with the spire is the Seaman's Bethel which was used as the planning/site office for the Quayside redevelopment. Next to that was Harrisons the Organ Maker's Workshop..............on Horatio Street. A bust of Nelson overlooked the River. (Thinks!! Is it still there??)
Paul Hood. + WSS Tyneside Branch Hon Sec.
