Commissioned into the Royal Netherlands navy as HNLMS Van Nes in 1994 she was one of their Karel Doorman class frigates, serving until decommissioned in 2007
Sold to Portugal and commissioned into their navy in 2009 the ship has since then undergone two upgrade programmes which should extend her service life to 2035
