PORTRIEUX (ex SUGAR EXPORTER)

PORTRIEUX .jpg
I've been asked to confirm that the Tyne is the location of this photo, probably taken around 1970.
I'm just not sure. These cranes look a bit different to those shown in pictures of the ore quay that I've found so far.
Anyone care to comment?

While looking for inspiration I came across a short but interesting piece of film on the Yorkshire Film Archive site which shows an ore carrier arriving in the river, and shots taken on board the ship at the ore quay. There are also some clips of ore trains, with 9F's, Q6's and Q7's in harness. Lovely stuff!

I don't think so.
The ore berth cranes on the film have a gantry of sorts in front of them
Would guess at a European port.
Film shows the trains taking ore to Consett Steelworks which I visited on a school trip around 1974/75.
Back in the classroom the geography teacher made the comment that 'they would never close the place'
Well no one expected Maggie Thatcher to win an election did they?

Has to be a UK port, she is flying the Red Duster and that's a british bus, lower right.

Certainly heavy dockside gear and looks like a reclaimer on the quay, can't think which port might have had such .... maybe South Wales, Newport or Cardiff??

My thoughts were a Welsh port or Southampton.

Don't think Southampton would allow anything like that, might keep the posh passengers awake.
We must rely on Mr. Hood to identify the bus operator ;)

Looking through various photos in NEM and on the web it does not seem to be either Cardiff or Swansea.

Not Bidston, not Port Talbot ... Glasgow ore berth, or Workington?
Must be in 1964-1972 range.

Too clean for the Clyde unless it was a dock like KGV or Rothesay Docks

Not Workington either, unless they got rid of such equipment after they stopped importing iron ore.
