Where did you take the second picture from Ron? You must have used a very long lens.

Dennis,

From what I call the Brigham Cowan bridge, that distinctive bridge up the top of the hill.
Haven't checked what magnification I use from there, probably about x25 as I now recall I did check while taking the smaller SPANACO vessel and noting that was at x34 magnification. That is getting towards maximum non-distortion range for my camera. Goes up to x300 odd!!! but badly affected by distortion. Can manage about x40 in good conditions.

You will see I just about managed to catch most of the STAR MARU from up there!!

I thought that was where you were. What model of camera do you use? I use a Canon EOS 70D with a 70-300 zoom lens, but I'd struggle at that range (and it would be wobbling about all over the place!).

I have a Lumix. Seems to be shown as 20-1200 zoom lens, but limitation already described!

Probably a mid-range cameera price-wise. It's the second similar one I've had, the first sadly being stolen a few years back.
