Brigham & Cowan drydock, South Shields.
BLACK PRINCE, Prince Line Ltd., London, 3597gt, completed 3-1955 by Burntisland S.B. Co. Ltd., Burntisland.
1971 MARIA B (Greece), burnt and sank March 1977.
Of course, as is often the case, there is much of interest in the background. One of the cross river ferries in midstream and a Port Line ship in the left background.

Further scans from Albert Weller's original negative. First the BLACK PRINCE enlarged:

Then from the full negative:

The whole of the Port Line vessel can now be seen and, nearer the camera, in the middle distance I can now identify the TERN from other views yet to show in this series.

Classic old photo Ron, wish I had a £ for every time I stood at that point looking down, Bloody hell you can not see the river for ships, I see the two old ferries and a BP tanker and what looks like one of the old port line ships at Smiths dock and the George V.

just visible over the sheds to the left of the drydock in the lower part of the picture is the mast and aft superstructure of G.S.N.C.'s 'Tern' Regards
