Actually that's a very useful posting cause I can link it to a Question!
In the 1900's to 1940's and later quite a few local shipping companies were based at 'Cails Buildings' Quayside.
Now does anyone know which one was Cails Buildings?????
Septimus A Cail was born in 1820, served as the first Newcastle Station Master of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway and later joined the Opticians Business run by his Brother. He then moved into the Stationery and Printing Business and was based at Nos 42 and 43 Quayside which was before the Customs House and shown by what looks like a Pink square just above the bow of the Blue Trawler.
The shop existed until at least 1964 and was double fronted with three windows on the first floor.
BUT did not look like it housed additional Offices. The Graham Steam Ship Company, G H Elder & Co and E R Newbigin were at least three of the Companies based there.
Sooooooooooooooooo did Cail and Sons extend a long way back OR was Cails Building not connected with the Printers??
Answers on a Postcard please..............
