Completed as SAMINDORO in 1944 by Bethlehem Fairfield at Baltimore, for the U.S.Maritime Commission
Headlam & Sons of Whitby managed two Liberty ships for the MOWT, purchasing them both in 1947 and placing them in the ownership of the Rowland & Marshall Steamship Co. Ltd. SANDSEND spent all her life with the company until sold for demolition. The wheelhouse which was installed on her flying bridge would win no prizes for aesthetic appearance, and has indeed been compared to a garden shed!
The ship arrived at Kaohsiung for breaking on 5th December 1967
Recorded at South Shields 7th August 1965

Nice reminder of the Headlam Liberties.
Some more views of her, various places unknown.
