As I understand it Graham their biggest job is make sure the marina/river water is not polluted in any way, yes agree a professional job and they will soon have her striped down to near water then simply lift her out for the final cut up

I was told they will strip her so far to almost waterline and then lift out whats left, bet there's a few barnacles on her hull :D

There was always a bond on her (like an insurance) that as she could never leave again through the lock she would be scrapped where she lay

Interesting Mike, you can drive a car without Insurance if for some reason no Insurance Company will take the risk, laying down a Bond of £500,000 with the Accountant General of the Senior Courts covers you only. A driver can of course run without any Insurance at all and risk the A.N.P.R. taking their photograph which apparently is on the increase unfortunately. ron@2.

Not quite...

The remaining hull proved to be too heavy for the two cranes and the job was abandoned nntil a bit more can be knocked off.

When they scrapped HMS Kellington they had quite a big crane, but they still had to cut the Hull in half before lifting. Although the Hull was well soaked wood I would guess she would still be lighter then the EofZ.

I have worked with this size of crane in the past and technically they sure are big enough, however in my humble opinion they were set to far back from the quay edge so there boom was to far out which reduced the lifting capacity

It may be the quayside itself was not strong enough to move closer for a more vertical lift, either way some poor sod must have got a bollocking
