I know she's on Spiller's berth in the picture but that section was known as "Newcastle Quay Extension" and consisted of an extra 650ft Deep Water Berth (Up to 30ft LWOST). Just down River the Quay was strengthened to take heavy loads as was the route from Parsons Works, three miles away.
An advert for Parsons states that "Heaton Works are ideally suited for overseas shipment of heavy generating plant, via the Port of Tyne, being three miles from a deep water birth and a maximum lifting capacity of 250 tons."
Titan could only lift 150 tons and in most cases, ships heavy lift gear was used, so I assume the 250 ton limit had something to do with the Quay loading.
