River Tyne trip - 27 June 1976:

The outermost of three of the larger CEGB colliers moored midstream as usual. Being passed by one of the Tyne pleasure cruisers, a sister or companion to whichever one I was on.

Not the easiest to ID, Ron.

The inside one could be CLIFF QUAY, BARFORD, LORD CITRINE, SIR ARCHIBALD PAGE, CAPTAIN J M DONALDSON OR W J H WOOD whilst the middle one could be SIR WILLIAM WALKER, JAMES ROWAN, SIR JOHN SNELL or CHARLES H MERZ!

Take your pick.

Your fine vessel was either the TYNE PRINCESS or the TYNE DUCHESS operated by Mid Tyne Ferries Limited which were built at Gainsborough. The odd one out was the TYNE QUEEN which was built at Hebburn.

Young man, I will have seen them (being very old) but have no recollection of exactly where they were .... I am sure we will be told!
