A Wartime Tragedy which as you say George largely forgotten, I would certainly recommend reading about "Y" Stations listening to German radio transmissions including in particular those in this area during 1914/18 along with the Beam Benders at Marske during WW2. Scarborough is the oldest continuously manned Radio Station in the World I believe.
I wonder if her boat is still around.
